To the Many Shepherds
Christ calls us to be shepherds to his flock where ever they are found.
That may be as a shepherd to a local church, missionary to believers in remote places, to your children or wife, in business or where ever good leaders are needed. Here I share my thoughts and experiences to encourage fellow shepherds where ever you are.
He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”
John 21: 16 ESV
About Me
Growing up on a farm in Northern Michigan, caring for animals was a daily experience. At age 9 I was convinced I wanted to be a shepherd and talked my dad into buying me a flock of sheep. Though I was too small to do everything for them, it was my job to care for them each day. Before school, I would carry water out for them on frozen mornings, in the afternoons ahead of lambing season I’d carry them buckets of grain.
Each year we’d have them sheared and have a new batch of lambs. Once old enough we’d send them to the sale barn. They made just enough money to cover hay for the next year. In the years that I cared for them I didn’t make anything and yet I loved having them. I loved waking up early and walking through the pasture with them.
At the time I didn’t realize what I was learning.
